We Do Have Value!
For our last CGIA continuing education program of 2009, we are taking an afternoon break to focus briefly on all the value we in the group insurance market do provide on a regular ongoing basis. We acknowledge that reform is needed, but we also know that we are not the "evil" industry as portrayed by legislators and various special interest groups. We have four speakers that will discuss aspects of how the Colorado private group health insurers and its representatives contribute to its members, to the community, to its employees, and to health care providers.
About Our Speakers:
Suzanne Bragg-Gamble, the Executive Director of CoverColorado since September 2007. CoverColorado is the state's high risk health insurance pool for residents who are turned down by private insurance carriers. She will discuss how the private insurers and CoverColorado work together to provide coverage to the highest risk in our community. By doing so, rates for those in CoverColorado and in the market are more affordable then they otherwise would be if the pool did not exist.
Barbara Springer, J.D., General Counsel and Vice President of Administration at Delta Dental of Colorado, and the Executive Director of the Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation.Created in 1997, the mission of the Foundation is to fund programs to prevent oral disease while advancing the science and practice of medicine and dentistry. A few of the programs they have supported include the Chopper Toppers Sealant Program, Bright Smiles for Bright Futures, Cavity Free at Three, Smile-a-bration, and the Invest Program for the Uninsured.
Dr. Jandel Allen-Davis, Vice President of Government and External Relations for Kaiser Permanente Colorado. In this role she has responsibility for Kaiser Permanente Colorado's community benefit investment, local and national government relations, and internal and external communications and brand management. Her past roles at Kaiser included associate medical director of external relations for the Colorado Permanente Medical Group, regional director of patient safety, and physician chief of the Wheat Ridge Medical Offices.
Dr. Lynn Parry, Denver Neurologist. She has been a leader on health care and health reform issues in Colorado for many years. As co-chair of the Physicians Congress for Health Care Reform of the Colorado Medical Society, Lynn spearheaded the development of CMS' guiding principles for health care reform as well as a sophisticated tool for evaluating health reform proposals. Lynn served as president of the Medical Society in 2006 and continues to play a leading role in the Medical Society's legislative and policy work. She also sits on the board of the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization, which is facilitating the electronic exchange of health information between physicians, hospitals and other providers.
In addition to these four great speakers,we will be presenting to Inner City Health the proceeds from various fund raising events held throughout the year by CGIA and announcing the recipient of the 2009 CGIA Career Excellence Award.
